Your state of mind

Emotions such as shame, fear, guilt, awkwardness or embarrassment about having sex may make it difficult to relax. When you can’t relax, arousal is hard, and pain come about. Fatigue and stress can also affect the desire to have sex.


Relationship problems

Problems between partners may affect a person’s sexual response. A common issue with most marriages, and this is what we call mismatch between partners in their level of sexual desire

Most medicines on the market can reduce sexual desire such as certain birth control techniques.


Medical and surgical conditions

Certain medical conditions can affect sexual response indirectly. These conditions diabetes, arthritis, thyroid conditions, and cancer. Some women who have undergone surgery may also find that they have decreased sexual desire.

If your partner has sexual issues such erectile dysfunction or delayed orgasm, and this in turn may cause painful sex.



Types of gynecologic conditions that can cause painful

Pain during sex can be a sign of gynecologic condition. Some of the conditions may also cause other medical problems if not treated in time.


Skin disorders

Skin disorders may cause cracks or even ulcers of the skin of the vulva. Contact dermatitis is a popular skin condition that affects the vulva. It is the reaction of the body in response to certain things such as douches, soaps, and lubricants. It may cause itching, pain, burning. Treatment of such disorders is paramount.


Vulvodynia

This disorder affects the vulva. When pain gets into the area near the opening of the vagina, it is referred to as vulvar vestibulitis syndrome. There are a couple of treatments for this condition such as self-care measures. Surgery or medication may be necessary in some cases.
